01/10/11 - Randwick and Eagle Farm Selections

It's a shortened version of The Silk this Saturday.  With such a big weekend of racing I've decided to concentrate my Saturday selections on Randwick.  I have also included my selections for Eagle Farm but without the spiel.  To be honest my hand was forced as it was my old girl's birthday Friday and well everyone knows you don't want to get on the wrong side of your mum!  Selections for Randwick have been based on a slow track and a good track for Eagle Farm.  Anyway, best of luck punters for Super Saturday.

Randwick

Race 1 - The Gimcrack is a tough way to start the day with a field of untested 2 year old fillies.  With only trial form to go on and very little clue how these youngsters will handle the wet, it would advisable to give this race a miss or only get involved in a small way.  I have settled on My Shabella.  It won by 3.3 lengths in a trial and has Corey Brown on board.  He should be able to possy up well from barrier 1.  Other hopes to Kyria, Sunday Too Far and Chez Harmony.

Race 2 -  Another tough race.  Here we have the 2 year old dudes.  Once again all runners are on debut.  A look and see or small bet approach should be undertaken.  I've put Hidden Warrior on top thanks to his 7 length trial win.  Other hopes to Spirit Of Speed, Forget and Rusambo.

Race 3 - The Roman Consul Stakes sees a small field of 6 going around.  I'm with Foxwedge here.  The form around this horse is stunning.  Ran 0.3 lengths off Smart Missile and wasn't far off Manawanui and co in the Golden Rose.  If he gets through the going and I think he will, he should be able to camp up close and boot away.  Other hopes to Startreusse, Masthead and Aeronautical.

Race 4 - I think Love Conquers All will win this.  From the peg, Cassidy will be able to settle the horse wherever he likes.  Probably just off the speed or it could even take them up.  It ticks a lot of boxes.  Good 2nd up record, loves the track and distance and can handle the wet well.  The only downside will be the price and I wouldn't be taking anything ridiculous.  Other hopes to Albert The Fat, Winter King and Neeson.

Race 5 - Looks like all roads lead to My Kingdom Of Fife.  Early quotes around the $1.55 mark suggest this and it's hard to argue with bookies here.  It looks to have a definite class edge of these and is in ripping form.  Again it ticks all the boxes.  Top 2nd up record, loves the wet, great record at the track and distance and has been tuned up nicely since it's last start.  Other hopes to Older Than Time, Gazza Guru and Syreon.

Race 6 - The Spring Champion Stakes is the first of 4 Group 1's at Randwick.  Most of these horses have been racing each other with shared results.  However they get out to 2000m now.  Because of this, I've gone for Strike The Stars.  For starters, it's a Savabeel so this distance should be right up it's alley.  That's supported by it's previous 2 runs.  It shouldn't have a problem with the damp track either as suggested by it's 2 seconds on slow and heavy.  I just think it will be the strongest at the finish.  Other hopes to Rekindled Alliance, Ambidexter and Darci Be Good.

Race 7 - The Epsom Handicap looks like it will be a bottler.  I've been trying to find something to beat Sincero and although there's quite a few serious challengers, I keep coming back to this wonderful horse.  I can't see the other jockeys letting King of Lionheart get away with too much in front which will hopefully mean a nice pace.  This will help Sincero unload a powerful finish.  His past 2 wins have made him cherry ripe for this.  He's unbeaten over this track and distance and the wet track shouldn't pose any problems.  Other hopes to Pinker Pinker, Secret Admirer and Thankgodyou'rehere.

Race 8 - I'm going to stick with Pane In The Glass in the Coolmore Flight Stakes.  This horse is always in the finish.  The key here for her is a good pace.  Unlike the last couple of races, I think she'll get that here. Can see Streama and Choice Words pushing across from the outside with a few others.  This will suit Pain In The Glass.  It's 2nd behind helmet on heavy back in April suggests to me that the wet track may strengthen it's chances.  Other hopes to Hallowell Belle, Streama and Dowager Queen.

Race 9 - Depending on the state of the track, I think Lamasery can win the Metropolitan.  The trainer has said it will not run on anything worse than slow 6.  At this stage, it's the one for me.  This horse grabbed us the biscuits last start, just.  It's in excellent form and drops to 52kg.  The 2400m won't pose any problems.  Other hopes to Tullamore, Trusting and Crafty Irna.
