28/07/12 - Doomben

Doomben

Race 1 - Doomben was rated a slow 6 at 3pm Friday afternoon and with little chance of rain, the track should get very close to a dead rating by 11.45am Saturday.  In the opening event, I'm going with Landuncan (8).  Last start he came home with a wet sail in the South Grafton Cup over this distance to run 4th to Carry Me Bluey by 1.7 lengths.  That would appear good form for this.  Has Tricky Terry Treichel in the saddle and he should be able to give the horse a gun run from the favourable draw.  The horse has a good overall record winning 5 from 15.  Other hopes to Dusty Gold (3), Eureka (1) and From London (5).

Race 2 - Let's just be thankful that this isn't a leg of the quaddie.  It's not a race that inspires me at all and I won't be getting involved.  Eureka Jack (6) is 1 of the better hopes but I couldn't be convinced to take the $3 about him.

Race 3 - I'm going with the form combination of Thompson and Lloyd in this 2 year old race.  Lita (7) won 1st up over 1030m for the pair last start.  She has won her only 2nd up start and that was over last start winner Modern Warfare who is engaged here.  Lloyd should be able to give her a great run from barrier 5.  Other hopes to Headless (6), Modern Warfare (1) and Parsnips (15).

Race 4 - The Silk was behind Top Of The Rock (3) last start when she narrowly went down to Bradbury Chocolate.  I'll stick solid here as she's in great form.  Her overall record is a good one.  Her record over this distance stands at 4-2-1-0 and she has also raced well at this track.  Gets 3kg off for the apprentice Richardson and I can see the horse getting an excellent run from barrier 6.  Other hopes to Divine City (1), Gypsy Pearl (11) and War Charm (2).

Race 5 - Bradbury Chocolate (1) is unbeaten in 7 starts and won impressively in it's 1st go in town last start.  It came from the rear of the field to storm home on heavy going.  It's 8th win looks a very good chance here.  The others are running for 2nd.

Race 6 - If Mossriver (2) was ever going to win a race then this is probably it.  She has been racing much better quality opposition than these recently and has done a decent job doing it.  She has a good record over this distance and at this track.  Will more than likely get her favoured dead track.  Other hopes to My Bellydancer (8), Zamboni (9) and Norocos (1).

Race 7 - Plenty of value to be had here with such a big field.  I'll be throwing my support behind Little Brown Horse (9).  This is a consistent race horse winning or placing 9 from 17.  This is her pet distance range with a record of 8-2-1-1.  Has the claimer Matheson on top and will carry just 51kg.  Should get a great run from barrier 4.  Other hopes to Beggin (3), Modern Al (1) and Miss Orielle (10).

Race 8 - This is a competitive race, no doubt about it.  I've gone with Prost (6).  His last 2 runs have been full of merit.  He ran 4th in the Eyeliner where he was slow away but rallied late.  He then ran 2nd in the Ramornie behind a very good horse but again he came home well.  I think those 2 runs have him primed for a good display here.  Lloyd will be able to give him an excellent run from the inside gate.  Other hopes to Signified (10), Youthful Jack (3) and Lucky Luna (4).

Race 9 - Golden Cash (4) put in a good run 1st up after a year off the scene.  After leading he was run down 100m out which is understandable considering the time out.  He should be all the fitter for that blow out and I expect he'll be right in this.  Colless will be able to possie him up well  from the nice gate.  Drops 1.5kg from last time.  Other hopes to Requested (9), Shafeeq (7) and D'Jet (10).
