23/02/13 - Eagle Farm, Caulfield and Warwick Farm

Eagle Farm

With the wet weather we've had around South-East Queensland this week, Eagle Farm is currently rated a Slow 7 (Friday afternoon).  There is a chance of further showers and possibly a storm Saturday afternoon after a fine morning so I think it's safe to base our selections on a slow track.

***The sun's out Saturday morning and an upgrade to dead looks likely.  A late storm is forecast however.***

Race 1 - Going Going Gone (4) is an undefeated filly who has looked good winning both her 2 starts at Ipswich.  First start she won by 2.3 lengths on heavy going and then brained the opposition by 6.3 lengths 2nd up.  She has run good times in both and I suspect she is ready to step up to city class racing.  She draws well in barrier 4 and gets 2kg off for the claim of Tegan Harrison.  Other hopes to Tip Top Tiger (5), Grey Countess (1) and In A Huff (7).

***With the scratching of Tip Top Tiger, I'll promote Nicked And Court (10) to the other hopes***

Race 2 - Alcania (6) looks well suited here given the conditions.  She simply loves a wet track as highlighted by her heavy track stats of 3 wins and a 2nd from 4.  She resumed 2 weeks ago and raced really well in a BM85 over 1200m.  She drops back to a BM75 here and with that added fitness on her side, will prove tough to hold out.  Other hopes to Hold Me Tight (11), Accidental (8) and Editave (9).

Race 3 - I really don't like this race.  With the scratching of Stradon, Danrho comes up very short and although he might come out and brain these, I simply can't cop the $2.30 on offer for a horse that only has the 1 win and has never raced on a wet track.  I'm more inclined to have an each way bet on Chart (1) at double figure odds.  This horse has raced in much stronger races than this.  He resumes here but has trialled well and did run 2nd 1st up last campaign in tougher grade and on a slow track.  Priscilla Schmidt claims 3kg so the horse will carry 56kg.  He will be hitting the line strongly and I think is good value.  Other hopes to Danrho (8), Ticket To Dream (7) and In A Storm (5).

Race 4 - There's a number of noted wet trackers in this race who are also in form.  I'm a Longshoreman (4) fan and I think he can be winning here.  At times he's a little frustrating as he's always hitting the line hard but sometimes he just misses out.  However on a wet track he converts placings into wins more often than not as demonstrated by his 4 wins and a 3rd from 5 starts on wet tracks.  2 starts back he destroyed a class 6 field at the Sunshine Coast on heavy going over 1400m.  The 1500m will suit his style with a number of horses setting a reasonable speed.  Other hopes to Black Cash (8), Epic Terra (3) and Congo (9).

***With the scratching of Congo, I'll promote Tokamak (5) to the other hopes***

Race 5 - Divine City (5) looks to have this race at her mercy.  She is well weighted for a mare of her standard and gets the services of the form Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill.  She has raced really well her last 2 starts.  2 starts back she ran 3rd to Longshoreman on the heavy Sunshine Coast track and then finished strongly for a 1.8 length 5th to Tokomak.  The way she hit the line suggests that the 1500m here will suit.  Other hopes to Karanja (1), Whitesails (3) and Bevico Girl (6).

Race 6 - It's hard to go past Better Than Ready (5) here but he's already into a $1.75 so realistically he's not a betting proposition.  He resumed 2 weeks ago and ran on strongly for 2nd over 1000m after being galloped on.  He'll be further improved for that run and gets to his favourite trip.  I'll take a quinella/exacta with The Sixties (3).

Race 7 - Time To Plunder (11) comes to Brisbane from the Anthony Cummings stable and has good Sydney form to his credit.  Last start he ran 2nd at good odds in this grade.  He has good wet track form, winning 1 and placing in 2 others from 4 starts.  He gets the services of Michael Cahill who will be able to position the horse nicely from barrier 7.  Other hopes to Leealan (6), Pure Purrfection (9) and Hollyweird (8).

***With the scratching of Hollyweird, I'll promote Power Of Ed (7) to the other hopes***

Race 8 - Kuchinskaya (4) won well last start over 1020m and I think she can go back to back.  In that race she jumped and moved to the front and was able to do it at the finish as well.  I can see her doing a similar thing here.  Her Sydney form is great for a race like this.  She finished 4 lengths back in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace.  Other hopes to Mishani Sinner (9), Tiger Dimejam (7) and Lita (11).

***With the scratching of Lita, I'll promote Rare Ruby (17) to the other hopes***
