03/12/11 - Caulfield, Rosehill and Eagle Farm

G'day punters.  Well the less said about last week the better.  Things weren't too bad if you kept to the best bets as 3 of the 5 got up.  However there was little joy with the other selections.  Still we back up again this Saturday and hopefully things will be much better.  Fingers crossed!

Caulfield

Race 1 - 2 year olds without race experience. Pass.

Race 2 - I won't be getting too involved in this race.  I like Mabsam but am a little concerned about it lumping 59kg.  It's last start 0.4 length 2nd to Combat Kitty over this distance should bode well for this race.  It's had a bit a freshen up which should do the trick.  Other hopes to Florets, Suite Success and Her Diamond Rock.

Race 3 - Going with Big Steel here.  Although it has the outside gate, I think he can come across to settle in the 1st couple or even dictate terms.  Has won 2 from 4 2nd up and goes best on a good to dead surface.  Looked quite good 1st up against the very much in form Under The Eiffel.  Other hopes to Elusive King, Pacino and La Rocket.

Race 4 - Don't mind the look of Our Pride And Joy.  Has been racing really well of late, winning it's past 2.  She does her best racing on a good to dead surface and won her only start over this distance.  Other hopes to Apienne, Danahere and Mayneda Strategy.

Race 5 - Infinite Energy looked reasonably handy in it's only start when it ran on from near last to finish 3rd.  Prepared to assume that Moody has it set for a 1st up crack at 1200m.  The apprentice Stackhouse's claim leaves it with just 54kg to carry.  Other hopes to Your Excellency, Stratigraphy and Tale Of The Sea.

***With the scratching of Your Excellency, I'll promote Insurpassable to the hopes***
Race 6 - I like the look of Miss Octopussy in this.  I like the 6kg weight advantage she has over Catapulted.  She should be able to sit behind the leaders and come over the top of them.  Her record at the track and distance is top shelf.  Other hopes to Catapulted, Royal Ida and General Truce.

Race 7 - Avionics looks right in this race.  After the 3kg claim, it looks well weighted to turn the tables on the horses that beat it last time.  Should get a great run on the speed from the nice barrier.  Loves a dead track and goes well at this track and distance.  Other hopes to Zeftabaa, Fabulist and Our Spirits Bay.

***With the scratching of Fabulist, I'll promote Inablitz to the hopes***

Race 8 - I've struggled a bit with this race.  In the end I've settled on Shadowfax.  Has a rubbish gate but will get back anyway so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.  Should be adequate pace on for it to get a fair crack in the straight.  Has a good record at the track and distance and also has a top 2nd up record.  Other hopes to Orbit Express, Snow Cover and At The Heads.

***With the scratching of At The Heads, I'll promote Scaredymac to the other hopes***

Rosehill

Race 1 - A small field of 2 year olds with little to no experience. Pass

Race 2 - I won't be knocking people out of the way to get a bet on here. I'd put Dynamic Honour on top with Gaze In Awe and Sindarin hardest to beat.  Dynamic Honour looks like a horse with the potential to progress through the ranks.

Race 3 - Going with Single here.  Raced in Group 1 company last campaign and looks a very nice type.  Won over this distance last campaign and put in a super trial leading up to this race.  Other hopes to Rolling Pin, Millenium Ruler and Thrillers.

Race 4 - Unanimously looks very hard to beat here.  Has the perfect 3 from 3 1st up record.  This race is over his pet trip and should get a great run.  Other hopes to My Cookie Monster, Madibagold and Recorrido.

Race 5 - Miss Marx ticks a lot of boxes for this type of race.  She's never been out of a place in her 7 starts and has a great 1st up record.  She has raced well at this track and distance and has the added bonus of Nash on top.  Other hopes to Dystopia, Mrs Onassis and Off And Laughing.

Race 6 - I'll go with King Lionheart here.  I'm hoping he has spelled well following the Epsom.  The horse has a lot in it's favour.  Has a good 1st up record, loves the track and distance and has Nash on board.  Should be able to dictate terms.  Other hopes to Kontiki Park, Tromso and Circle Of Power.

Race 7 - This looks a race in 2 for mine between Mikiyama and Revolt.  I'll go with Revolt.  I just think that it's got a bit more upside.  It's been stepping up through the grades with a bit of style. The 2000m is a question mark but it's always running on so it probably won't be a problem.  Other hopes to Mikiyama, Nextanix and Merenksy Reef.

Race 8 - This is a tricky race to finish the meeting.  I feel that there could be a battle upfront here with a number of horses that like to lead.  For that reason, I'm going with Honest Lies.  Last start it rattled home for 2nd and should be all the more fitter for that run.  After the claim, it will only have to carry 52.5kg.  It has a good record at the track and distance.  Other hopes to Stratana, Equable and Rumour And Scandal

Eagle Farm

Race 1 - I'll give this 1 a miss.

Race 2 - Rundle looks very hard to beat again.

Race 3 - Kar Ma Te has looked an impressive type, particularly in it's last start win where it ran 3 wide.  I doubt he'll get trapped that wide in this.  I love the fight of this bloke.  Other hopes to Red God, Shezahotshot and Kiss Me Deadly.

Race 4 - This is a challenging race to say the least. I'm going with King Of The Kongo.  I'm thinking there will be a lot of horses fighting for position here which should ensure a steady speed.  This could set things up for the King who loves to run on as seen by his last start effort in finishing close up to Cape Kidnappers.  Has a great 2nd up record, is good over the distance and gets a nice 3kg off with the apprentice Wood.  Other hopes are Heart To Fear, By Choice and Outstandingly.

Race 5 - It's going to be the charge of the light brigade here. There's so much speed engaged here that you'd have to imagine that some will burn themselves out.  I'd love to get on Silk favourite Saraji again but I don't think he'll have things his own way.  I've gone with Pepper Jet.  He'll stay well away from the speed battle up front and be coming home like a train.  His 4th in the Magic Millions Classic proves he is a quality horse.  Other hopes to Dr Ichi, Saraji and Show A Prince.

Race 6 - Zero Rock looks very hard to beat here.  Has a super 1st up record as well as the distance.  Is weighted beautifully given the quality of opposition.  Chris Waller has said earlier in the week that he probably wouldn't be running his horse Dystopia here just to run a place to Zero Rock.  That's a fairly good recommendation the Zero Rock is the 1.  Hopes for the minors include Liesele, Mossriver and Catashee.

Race 7 - It's hard to go past Carry Me Bluey here.  That finish he unleashed last start was nothing short of outstanding.  Like Shooter McGavin, he'll eat this 1600m at Eagle Farm up for breakfast.  The horse has been racing in super form and will be tough to hold out.  Other hopes to Fillydelphia, Humma and Rockdale.

Race 8 - Given the way Thefifthhole blew his rivals off their feet and then kept going last start, you'd have to think he'll be very hard to hold out again.  It looks like he'll go unchallenged in front which should set it up for him.  2 from 2 over the distance.  Other hopes to Hidden Kisses, Dusty Gold and Prost.

Best Bets

Caulfield - Race 6 Number 6 Miss Octopussy
              Race 7 Number 2 Avionics

Rosehill - Race 3 Number 15 Single
             Race 4 Number 4 Unanimously

Eagle Farm - Race 6 Number 1 Zero Rock
Race 7 Number 9 Carry Me Bluey
                  Race 8 Number 7 Thefifthhole

Because I'm a lunatic I'll be having a sneaky all up bet on Eagle Farm runners Rundle, Kar Ma Te, Zero Rock, Carry Me Bluey and Thefifthhole.

Good luck!
