23/02/13 - Eagle Farm, Caulfield and Warwick Farm

Eagle Farm

With the wet weather we've had around South-East Queensland this week, Eagle Farm is currently rated a Slow 7 (Friday afternoon).  There is a chance of further showers and possibly a storm Saturday afternoon after a fine morning so I think it's safe to base our selections on a slow track.

***The sun's out Saturday morning and an upgrade to dead looks likely.  A late storm is forecast however.***

Race 1 - Going Going Gone (4) is an undefeated filly who has looked good winning both her 2 starts at Ipswich.  First start she won by 2.3 lengths on heavy going and then brained the opposition by 6.3 lengths 2nd up.  She has run good times in both and I suspect she is ready to step up to city class racing.  She draws well in barrier 4 and gets 2kg off for the claim of Tegan Harrison.  Other hopes to Tip Top Tiger (5), Grey Countess (1) and In A Huff (7).

***With the scratching of Tip Top Tiger, I'll promote Nicked And Court (10) to the other hopes***

Race 2 - Alcania (6) looks well suited here given the conditions.  She simply loves a wet track as highlighted by her heavy track stats of 3 wins and a 2nd from 4.  She resumed 2 weeks ago and raced really well in a BM85 over 1200m.  She drops back to a BM75 here and with that added fitness on her side, will prove tough to hold out.  Other hopes to Hold Me Tight (11), Accidental (8) and Editave (9).

Race 3 - I really don't like this race.  With the scratching of Stradon, Danrho comes up very short and although he might come out and brain these, I simply can't cop the $2.30 on offer for a horse that only has the 1 win and has never raced on a wet track.  I'm more inclined to have an each way bet on Chart (1) at double figure odds.  This horse has raced in much stronger races than this.  He resumes here but has trialled well and did run 2nd 1st up last campaign in tougher grade and on a slow track.  Priscilla Schmidt claims 3kg so the horse will carry 56kg.  He will be hitting the line strongly and I think is good value.  Other hopes to Danrho (8), Ticket To Dream (7) and In A Storm (5).

Race 4 - There's a number of noted wet trackers in this race who are also in form.  I'm a Longshoreman (4) fan and I think he can be winning here.  At times he's a little frustrating as he's always hitting the line hard but sometimes he just misses out.  However on a wet track he converts placings into wins more often than not as demonstrated by his 4 wins and a 3rd from 5 starts on wet tracks.  2 starts back he destroyed a class 6 field at the Sunshine Coast on heavy going over 1400m.  The 1500m will suit his style with a number of horses setting a reasonable speed.  Other hopes to Black Cash (8), Epic Terra (3) and Congo (9).

***With the scratching of Congo, I'll promote Tokamak (5) to the other hopes***

Race 5 - Divine City (5) looks to have this race at her mercy.  She is well weighted for a mare of her standard and gets the services of the form Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill.  She has raced really well her last 2 starts.  2 starts back she ran 3rd to Longshoreman on the heavy Sunshine Coast track and then finished strongly for a 1.8 length 5th to Tokomak.  The way she hit the line suggests that the 1500m here will suit.  Other hopes to Karanja (1), Whitesails (3) and Bevico Girl (6).

Race 6 - It's hard to go past Better Than Ready (5) here but he's already into a $1.75 so realistically he's not a betting proposition.  He resumed 2 weeks ago and ran on strongly for 2nd over 1000m after being galloped on.  He'll be further improved for that run and gets to his favourite trip.  I'll take a quinella/exacta with The Sixties (3).

Race 7 - Time To Plunder (11) comes to Brisbane from the Anthony Cummings stable and has good Sydney form to his credit.  Last start he ran 2nd at good odds in this grade.  He has good wet track form, winning 1 and placing in 2 others from 4 starts.  He gets the services of Michael Cahill who will be able to position the horse nicely from barrier 7.  Other hopes to Leealan (6), Pure Purrfection (9) and Hollyweird (8).

***With the scratching of Hollyweird, I'll promote Power Of Ed (7) to the other hopes***

Race 8 - Kuchinskaya (4) won well last start over 1020m and I think she can go back to back.  In that race she jumped and moved to the front and was able to do it at the finish as well.  I can see her doing a similar thing here.  Her Sydney form is great for a race like this.  She finished 4 lengths back in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace.  Other hopes to Mishani Sinner (9), Tiger Dimejam (7) and Lita (11).

***With the scratching of Lita, I'll promote Rare Ruby (17) to the other hopes***

16/02/13 - Doomben, Rosehill and Flemington

Doomben (Dead 4)

I'm a little bit concerned about the track rating after overnight rain.  This morning it was rated a slow 6 and there's a chance of showers. Hopefully they stay away and we get back to a dead track.  Keep the track rating in mind especially with the likes of Noisy Ocean who doesn't like it.

Race 1 - Two weeks ago Flamboyer grabbed the cash for the Silk.  In that race, Aquator was noted as the hardest to beat and a nice exacta dividend was received.  I think Aquator (4) can go one better here and take out the opening event.  He drops 1.5kg for running a close 2nd and with the claim for Anthony Allen will carry just 53.5kg.  I think that's a considerable weight advantage to turn the tables on Flamboyer.  Last start he was really hitting the line hard so the extra distance here at 1350m will suit.  As noted last time, Aquator has good form around Magic Millions winner Real Surreal.  Other hopes to Flamboyer (1), Teronado (2) and Pound On Tubby (3).

Race 2 - Gundy Son (1) broke through for a long overdue win last start and I can see him repeating the dose here.  He hit the line hard in that win which was at this course and distance.  With the claim for Anthony Allen, he'll carry just 0.5kg more than last week.  That's not enough to stop him.  His record at this track and distance is a good one and from this gate, he'll be able to possie up nicely in the small field.  Hardest to beat in the small field is Prost (3).

Race 3 - A field of 14 speedsters will contest this 1010m scamper and as would be expected, the speed will be on.  If Lennie's Choice (17) is a promising looking horse and goes on top for me.  He has had the 2 career starts and has a 2nd and last start win to his credit.  His win was an eye catching display where he bolted in and ran quick time in heavy going.  Will be able to push forward with a light weight compared to the rest.  Unfortunately he is also the 3rd emergency so unless there's some scratchings, he won't get a run.  If does get a start, I'll be on.  If he doesn't get a run then it's a very even affair.  In that instance I'd put Lady Montel (5) on top who has a good record at the track and distance and trialed well behind Lucky Sound.  Other hopes to Tragedy (12) and Jantzen (4).

***With the scratching of Lady Montel, I'll promote Headless (13) to the other hopes***

Race 4 - I can't go past Boys On Tour (2) following his track record breaking demolition job last start.  He had finished off races well previous to last start but 2 weeks ago was something else.  He simply brained them.  Understandably he's come up a short quote (currently $1.50) so we may not be able to get on.  Having said that, I can't see any of these beating him.  Multiple hopes to Lucky Luna (1), What Happenedhenry (6) and Bang On (10).

Race 5 - Peron (5) is a promising 3 year old who has won all 3 of her starts.  She seems to get better each time she races and I feel she'll take her record to 4 from 4 here.  In all 3 starts she has hit the line hard so the step up to 1600m should be to her liking.  She's drawn a good gate and has the services of the in form Michael Cahill.  There's a lot to like here.  Other hopes to Itchintowin (13), Plumage (10) and Fantisha (8).

Race 6 - Noisy Ocean (5) finished 3rd last time out over this distance 2 weeks ago.  He drops 1.5kg from that run and will carry 55.5kg after the claim for Tegan Harrison.  He has drawn nicely in barrier 5 and I expect Tegan to get the horse to take a sit just behind Sir Stanley (scratched) who should lead.  He has won and placed 3rd in his 2 starts at this track/distance.  He put in some nice work during the week and I feel he's ready to win.  Other hopes to Dolly Dolly (11), Volkhere (13) and Shezahotshot (6).

***If the track is rated slow when this race starts, I will not be backing Noisy Ocean. It just doesn't handle it wet***

Race 7 - Viking Heart (8) is a model of consistency this campaign.  He has only been out of the placings once in those 5 starts.  Last start he lost by the barest of margins after having a ding dong battle the length of the straight.  He always puts in and is always finishing off strongly.  From the gun draw here, I can't see anything different.  His record at this track and distance is 3 wins from 5 starts.  Other hopes to Show Affection (13), Kilwinning Option (1) and Black Magic (15).

Race 8 - Lucky Sound (6) raced impressively last campaign where he won 3 from 4.  He has a great record at the distance winning 3 and running 2nd twice from 5 starts. He won his only start at this track and distance.  He resumes here but really put in a nice trial recently and I would think he's raring to go.  Draw nicely for Larry Cassidy who will position the horse nicely on the speed.  Other hopes to Bribie (4), Commandare (8) and Arado (9).

09/02/13 - Eagle Farm, Caulfield and Warwick Farm

Eagle Farm

Race 1 - I won't be getting involved in this 2 year old race to open proceedings.  A number of these are making their debut and some haven't had a trial.  That makes it a difficult proposition.  Tip Top Tiger (5) is a hot favourite and has big wraps on it based on it's dominant trial in October. Epsilon (6) won well on debut recently and looks the main danger. Other hopes are Craiglea Cruz (1) who has form around Magic Millions winner Real Surreal and Caledonia's Call (2) who trialled nicely.

Race 2 - Mukaddamah Son (5) won well last start when he came over the top to nut Dolly Dolly on the line to win over 2000m.  I really think this horse has turned the corner it's last few starts and can go on with it here.  He's up in class but does drop 2kg and meets last start rival Flying Home better at the weights.  The horse has drawn 2nd from the outside but Bell should be able to easily get the horse across to be just behind the leading 2 or 3.  Other hopes to Sam's Town (3), Count Encosta (2) and Flying Home (8).

Race 3 - What Happenedhenry (4) has had a freshen up since running 4th in the Magic Millions Stayers race over 1800m.  Drops back to 1500m which will be to his liking.  Cassidy will be able to position the horse nicely from the good gate and I'd expect him to be hitting the line hard.  His record at the track and distance is 2 seconds from 2 attempts.  Other hopes to Achievements (3), Rock Home Late (7) and Clever Hans (2).

Race 4 - Arctic (5) has been racing well of late without winning.  He has been running on well in all his recent races.  He has drawn much better here in the 2 alley and should be given a great ride from McMahon to unleash his customary big finish.  His record at the track reads 2 wins and 3 placings from 8 starts.  Other hopes to Whitesails (10), Faithnomore (6) and Ferocimo (16).

Race 5 - Lock's Legend (6) has come back in terrific order.  1st up he won a maiden at Ipswich by 8.3 lengths.  He backed it up last weekend in town where he was nutted on the line by General Exhibit.  He draws beautifully in barrier 3.  Cahill will be able to get this guy in a prominent position without a lot of effort.  He'll prove tough to catch.  Other hopes to Sookie (4), Trakstar (2) and Lennie's Choice (7).

***With the scratching of Lennie's Choice, I'll promote Gallinari (12) to the other hopes***

Race 6 - This looks an even affair with adequate speed.  I'm going with the former New Zealander Pellegrini (8).  This guy is a recent addition to the Heathcote yard and gets the services of top jock Micky Cahill.  Pellegrini has won a rating 85 and ran 5th in a Group 3 back in NZ.  He has placed 2nd in 3 1st up runs and I dare say Heathcote has him ready to roll here 1st up.  He's drawn gate 4 which will give Cahill a great opportunity to place the horse in a nice position.  Other hopes to Vintage Moss (3), Fitness Fanatic (7) and Bribie (4).

Race 7 - Better Than Ready (7) is a classy individual who has built a nice record in his short career.  He comes off a last start win where he broke the Randwick track record.  He will be assisted by a strong pace in front.  He gets the services of Cahill who will ensure the horse gets free to finish off hard.  I won't be taking a silly price for him though so hopefully he gets to a backable price.  Other hopes to Silver Bullion (12), Shafeeq (11) and Carry To Fortune (6).

Race 8 - Longshoreman (2) has been a model of consistency this campaign.  He hasn't been out of the top 2 in his last 5 starts.  There's a common theme to this guy's races, he finishes off hard.  He drops in weight from his last start win where he beat some of these on heavy going.  McMahon takes the ride and is undefeated in 2 starts on him.  Other hopes to Viking Heart (7), Write Cheek (8) and Dusty Gold (3).

02/02/13 - Doomben, Caulfield and Rosehill

Doomben

Race 1 - A small field of seven 2 year olds go around here and I generally wouldn't be too keen to get involved.  Particularly with a slow/heavy track on the cards.  There is 1 horse in the race that has wet track form and that's Flamboyer (1).  This guy is out of Clang so you know he will get through the ground.  That was on display when he won on debut at Ipswich by 1.8 lengths over 1200m.  He settled 2nd on that occasion and finished off strongly.  I expect him to do the same here.  Hardest to beat Aquator (2).

Race 2 - Style Music (12) looks tremendous value at $26 currently with Sportsbet.  She has drawn near the outside in barrier 13 but has the speed to cross early and take up a dominant position.  Her form on wet tracks reads well with a win and two 3rds from 4.  She has been racing in good fashion and importantly has been finishing strongly.  With the claim for Goold, she'll race with just 51kg which will make her very tough to run down in the straight.  Other hopes to Show Affection (4), Faultless Dancer (7) and Ticket To Dream (3).

Race 3 - This is a very even affair with a number of winning chances.  I think Coworth Park (4) has been building up to a win and today could be the day.  This guy hasn't been out of the placings in 3 career starts and in each of them he was running on well at the end.  Last start over 1500m he raced 3 and 4 deep for the majority of the race and still had the audacity to go down by just 1.5 lengths.  He's drawn near the outside in barrier 12 but I think Tegan Harrison who claims 2kg can get him across to be in a position in the 1st half dozen horses.  Should be able to get through the ground as he's out of Nadeem who won the Blue Diamond in heavy going.  Other hopes to Pickabee (7), Sister Emma (8) and Congo (1).
Race 4 - Shezahotshot (1) is knocking on the door for a win and I think gets a great opportunity here.  She's been racing in harder races than this and looks well weighted with 56kg after the claim for Matheson.  She's run on strongly in her last 2 starts and should get race conditions to suit here.  I have question marks over a lot of these to run the 1600m out.  She won't be concerned by that having won over 2100m.  A wet track won't concern her either.  Other hopes to Epic Terra (2), Matabrahma (4) and Home To The Bride (9).

***With the scratching of Home To The Bride (9), I'll promote Manicero (3) to the other hopes***

Race 5 - Cash 'N' Style (4) enters this race 3rd up from a spell.  His last 2 races when 3rd up, he's won.  He ran on 1st up and then was trodden on 2nd up but still only went down by 3.5 lengths. His wet track record is excellent with 6 wins and a 2nd from 11.  He drops 3kg's from last start and should be given a great run from Wiggins from the nice draw.  Other hopes to What Happenedhenry (2), Boys On Tour (3) and Lucky Luna (1).

Race 6 - Coming off a 35 day break, Jugahlation (5) almost pulled off a win in Listed company at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m last start.  With the natural fitness gained from that run and the drop back to 1350m, he'll be tough to beat here.  This guy is a deadset mudlark and if the track was heavy, my confidence would be further enhanced.  Will race with just 52kg after the claim for Vance.  Other hopes to Gundy Son (3), Doubtful Jack (2) and Achievements (7).

***With the scratching of Jugahlation, I'll promote Gundy Son (3) to the top pick and promote The Sixties (1) to the other hopes***

Race 7 - A big field of speedsters go around here over 1100m and the heat will be on.  Stradon (7) should get a great run from barrier 5 and will be tough to beat.  He has a win and a 3rd on slow/heavy going so we can expect him to handle the wet track.  The 3rd was in Group 2 company.  I believe he'll be able to stalk the leaders and be too strong in the straight.  He races well at the track and likes the distance.  Other hopes to Sinister Prince (1), Daph 'N' Alf (8) and Arado (5).

Race 8 - I'm taking a bit of a risk on Amalfi Dreams (11) as it has never raced on a wet surface.  However it's form since coming to Brisbane is hard to ignore.  In 3 starts it's won 2 and placed 3rd in listed company.  It's 2 wins have been at this track and distance.  It has been hitting the line hard.  Has the services of jockey Jeff Lloyd with 54kg.  If it handles the surface, will be awfully hard to beat.  Other hopes to Gypsy Pearl (9), Little Brown Horse (7) and Koranovsky (3).

***With the scratching of Gypsy Pearl, I'll promote Funtantes (1) to the other hopes***

Race 9 - General Exhibit (3) finally draws a good barrier here after his past 3 have been out wide.  He drops in weight to 54kg after the claim for Harrison which will be beneficial.  From barrier 4 he'll be able to boot up and be in a handy position.  He's been running on well in his past few races.  He handled a heavy track when he narrowly lost to Heza Jetsetter 3 starts back.  Other hopes to Tear It Up (8), Gotitallwrong (14) and Regular (6).

***With the scratching of Tear It Up,  I'll promote Indubious (4) to the other hopes***

Race 10 - Dolly Dolly (3) proved too good for her rivals last start in heavy going at the Sunshine Coast.  She won by 2.8 lengths over 1800m pulling away.  She has a proven record in the wet which isn't surprising given her breeding.  She'll race close up to the front and will prove mighty hard to run down.  Although she hasn't won at the track she has placed in 3 of 4.  Other hopes to Flying Home (10), Mukaddamah Son (4) and Handsome (7).
